With the fierce competition and limited room for development in China' s domestic petroleum material and equipment market, China Petroleum Materials and Equipment Co. decided on the overall growth strategy of taking group advantage to expand petroleum equipment exports and to take a larger share of international petroleum equipment market by encouraging its petroleum equipment manufacturing enterprises to get involved in the international market. With the fierce competition and limited room for development in China' s domestic petroleum material and equipment market, China Petroleum Materials and Equipment Co. decided on the overall growth strategy of taking group advantage to expand petroleum equipment exports and to take a larger share of international petroleum equipment market by encouraging its petroleum equipment manufacturing enterprises to get involved in the international market. Increasing sharply to $ 326 M in 1997, its petroleum export value, met the target of achieving $ 300 M of export value by the end of this century, 3 years ahead of schedule, exceeding the import value for the first time, which resulted in the company being listed as a major foreign exchange earner for China. In January 1998, its first shipment of steel pipe for an oil pipeline project in Sudan was dispatched, marking China' s entry into the international steel pipe market on a large scale. From this example, we can conclude that petroleum material and equipment enterprises will have a great growth potential if they make use of group advantage to actively open up international markets.
