The results indicate that to choose superno-rmal children by means of multiple standards, multiple methods and incomparison with normal children can bring better results.

The result showed that one to three de-velopment quotients of 24 out of the 197 children or babies were below the average level in thefour ability areas. The effect of various operation-births on mental development was asfollows: buttock traction accounted for 29.4%(5/17), caesarean birth 12.8%(11/86). headaspiration 8.9%(7/78), and forceps delivery 6.2% (1/16). Natural birth as control amoun-ted to 9.6%(32/331). The differences between the control and the four groups was sig -nificant. There were 31 item- times (I.T) could affect the ability areas. Of the 31 I.T,,language slowness accounted for 15 I.T, slowness in action 8 I.T, inferior response tothings 7 I.T, inferior response to people 1 I.T. It is believed that buttock traction has thegreatest effect on mental development, caesarean birth takes the second place, and headaspiration the third. The afea of language ability influenced all areas of ability the most,amounting to 15 I.T. That is just in accordance with Gesell's view point that language ability can providethe law of information for the development of the nervous system.

Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test Revis- ed(PPVT-R)is one of the most influencedscales for language ability assessment.Aftermodifying some words and Pictures,followedby two pilot tests,we conducted standardisedtesting to 600 Chinese children aged 3.5 to 9in Shanghai.The coefficiency for reliabilityand validity were given afterwords.There hassome“cross exchange”in the results betweenShanghai and U.S.A.,and the authors pro-posed,several possible reasons for it.
