Secondly, the conceptual context of static and dynamic collaborative optimization of complicated mechanical system is dissected in this dissertation, and its ontology constitution is studied, afterwards, its field oriented object tree and ontology expression are fulfilled in further.
Collaborative Optimization (CO), originated from the Compatibility Constrained Optimizaiton (CCO), is a bi-level optimization algorithm based on system decomposition and coordination. In CO, when come to a certain subsystem optimization, the influences from other subsystems are ignored temporarily, while a set of local variables take their places in the subsystem design.
Collaborative optimization algorithm of multi-disciplinary design optimization strategy was applied to the integrated preliminary design of a tower crane's metal structures. As for the computational difficulties appeared during solving the system-level optimization in collaborative optimization, an unconstrained optimization problem was formed.
Moreover,this paper presents several optimization algorithms,such as single-stage optimization,concurrent subspace optimization and collaborative optimization. It also introduces some optimization design platforms including iSIGHT software,DAKOTA software,VisualDOC software,and ModelCenter software developed respectively by Engineous Software Company,Sandia National Laboratory,Vanderplaats Research & Development,Inc. ,and Phoenix Integration Company.
The numerical results indicate that the basic collaborative optimization cannot be successfully applied to the integrated aerodynamic/structural design of a wing, while the response surface based collaborative optimization solve the design problem successfully and robustly.

Colla borative optimization(CO)is the most widely used MDO method,which has good effect in application, however some serious computational difficulties are found in its application. Reasons that cause computational difficulties in collaborative optimization are analyzed and a new improved collaborative optimization method(ICO)is presented.

The proposed formulation extends our previous multiobjective formulation of collaborative optimization, which uses goal programming at the system and subsystem levels to enable multiple objectives to be considered at both levels during optimization.
