This experimental investigation suggests a new flowsheet for the hydrometallurgy of zinc. The flowsheet possesses several advantages: no alkali consumption, high recovery of rare metals, high quality of purified solution, ease of filtration of iron-rich leach residue, etc. After scaling up to one-cubic meter capacity, the experiment has proven that: (1) high-temperature zinc calcine is amenable to hydrometallurgical extraction with excellent results; (2) zinc sulfite is an active reducing agent capable of performing...

This experimental investigation suggests a new flowsheet for the hydrometallurgy of zinc. The flowsheet possesses several advantages: no alkali consumption, high recovery of rare metals, high quality of purified solution, ease of filtration of iron-rich leach residue, etc. After scaling up to one-cubic meter capacity, the experiment has proven that: (1) high-temperature zinc calcine is amenable to hydrometallurgical extraction with excellent results; (2) zinc sulfite is an active reducing agent capable of performing reduction at low temperature, in a short time, with small excess of reagent and high reductive rate. The required zinc sulfite may be prepared by using zinc calcine or flue dust to absorb the acid waste gases (containing 0.2-0.5% SO_2), thus simultaneous solving the waste gas pollution problem; (3) The enrichment of indium by cyclic leaching operations not only simplifies the flowsheet but also increases its enrichment factor in solution; (4) a high speed oxidation of ferrous ions is guaranteed by using a turbo-stirrer; and (5) the use of limestone as a neutralizing agent for part of the spent cell acid can achieve acid equilibrium in the system and obtain an iron residue with low zinc content.

The behaviour of sulphur contained in heavy oil fuel during the roasting of la- terites and the effect of the sulphur on the quality of nickel powder product were inve- stigated from the viewpoint of phase composition and thermodynamics. It was shown that sulphur was almost completely absorbed by calcite in the ore, forming anhydrite (CaSO_4) which was, in turn, reduced to oldhamite (CaS) in the subsequent reduction procedure. The latter was exactly the source of unsaturated sulphur in the ammoniacal leaching...

The unsaturated species would enter nickel powder in the form of heazlewoodite (Ni_3S_2) if it had not been oxidized prior to hydrogen pressure reduc- tion. As a result, the total sulphur content in commercial nickel powder would rise to an unacceptable level.

From the aspect of the phase diagram, the slags of the off-furnace steel refinement may be substantially considered similar in nature of a CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3-MgO quarternary system. The liquid zone and the saturation surface at 1600℃ of this system and the MgO solubility line at 1600℃ in CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 slags as well as the quantity of liquid formed in different compositions of MgO-CaO system refractories after absorbed a certain amount of SiO_2 and Al_2O_3 at 1700℃ have been constructed by the allied...

The liquid zone and the saturation surface at 1600℃ of this system and the MgO solubility line at 1600℃ in CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 slags as well as the quantity of liquid formed in different compositions of MgO-CaO system refractories after absorbed a certain amount of SiO_2 and Al_2O_3 at 1700℃ have been constructed by the allied ternary phase diagrams and the published data. Based upon above-mentioned, the off-furnace steel refining slags attack upon the MgO-CaO system refractories was discussed. Suggestion may be made of the improvements upon the service life of the linings either by controlling the composition of slags or by selecting properly the constituents of MgO-CaO refractories.

本文根据有关三元系相图绘制出CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3-MgO四元系于1600℃时的液相区、饱和面。通过计算还绘出1600℃时MgO在CaO-SiO_2-Al_2O_3渣中的溶解度图,以及MgO-CaO系材料在高温时同时吸收一定量Al_2O_3与SiO_2后产生的液相量。依据这些图,分析讨论了炉外精炼渣对MgO-CaO系材料的侵蚀。从控制炉渣成分和选择恰当的MgO-CaO材料组成两个方面提出了改善炉衬寿命的途径。
