It is pointed out that H_2 and CO are mainly generated from the decomposition and reactions of H_2S and CO_2 in acid gas and the resultant is rough increased with the increasing of the H_2S content in acid gas and the temperature of furnace. COS is formed by the reaction between CO and elemental S. Once H_2S content in acid gas is over 70%, COS yield drops rapidly. CS_2 is formed by the reaction between CH_4 and elemental S. When the temperature of furnace increases to about 1300℃, the generation of CS_2 is stopped.

This does not interrupt the smooth running of the furnaces.From laboratory study on kinetics of coal powder combustion in two bench-scale combustion furnaces, one of which preheats the air blast by electrical resistance, the other by plasma torch, rate of combustion is found almost inversely proportional to grain size of coal; it increases with increaseof blast temperature up to 1475℃; oxygen enrichment up to 40% of the blast is very effective;with decrease of coefficient of surplus air to less than. 1.2 -1.3 the rate of combustion decreases abruptly, while whirling or rotation of the blast accelerates the combustion rate.Melting behavior of dropping zone slag mixed with ash of injected coal or partially burned coal residue seems not to be the limiting bottle-neck to high rate of coal injection. Investigation on effect of injection position, angle and shape of coal lance on the two phase gas-solid distribution by shock-wave tube and schlieren method reveals remarkable influence of these factors on uniform distribution of injected coal particles in the combution air stream.

A procedure has been developed for predicting the flow pattern, temperature distribution and heat flux pattern within the end fired cylindrical furnace(precombustion chamber) used in large capacity boilers to take pulverized coal fire in order to save the fuel oil. The turbulent two-equation model and the Monte Carlo technique are used in predicting. It is considered that the mathematical simulation method can be applied to prediction of the characteristics of practical cylindrical combustion furnaces....
