The natural moisture content of such clay reaches approximately 40—75%, the natural voids ratio is 1.2—1.63, the degree of consistency more than 1, the coefficient of compressibility 0.05—0.12cm~2/kg (under the pressure 1—3kg/cm~2), the unconfined comprcssive strength 0.1—0.3kg/cm~2 and the coefficient of permeability 10~(-7)—10~(-9)cm/sec. It is often to build sluice on saturated soft clay foundation in plain areas. The natural moisture content of such clay reaches approximately 40—75%, the natural voids ratio is 1.2—1.63, the degree of consistency more than 1, the coefficient of compressibility 0.05—0.12cm~2/kg (under the pressure 1—3kg/cm~2), the unconfined comprcssive strength 0.1—0.3kg/cm~2 and the coefficient of permeability 10~(-7)—10~(-9)cm/sec. It is always necessary to adopt certain technical measures for building the sluice on such clay layers with high compressibility, low bearing capacity and poor permeability. Considering the physical and mechanical properties of soft clay, some advanced structural types are developed in order to decrease the intensity of load from the structure upon the foundation soils, to regulate the pressure gradient on bearing soil layer between the neighbouring parts of the structure and also to reduce the possibility of disturbing the natural structure of clay and adjust the constructing procedure of the project for controlling the rate of increase of the applied load. Thus we have fully made use of the natural bearing capacity and the additional strength increased during the process of consolidation of the soft clay. If the foundation treatment is necessary, in most cases the method of replacing the soft clay layer just under the base of the structure by compacted sand or clayey soil layer is adopted, but at sometimes, the method of preconsolidation for foundation treatment is used too. All these enable us to successfully solve the problems arising from building the sluice on soft clay foundations with high speed.

在平原地区修建水闸,经常会遇到由饱和软粘土组成的软弱地基,它的天然含水量一般达40~75%,天然孔隙比1.2~1.63,稠度大于1,压缩系数(1~3公斤/厘米~2压力下)为0.05~0.12厘米~2/公斤,室內无侧限抗压强度0.1~0.3公斤/厘米~2,渗透系数在10~(-7)~10~(-9)厘米/秒之间。在这种压缩性高、强度低、透水性差的粘土层上修建水闸工程,必须采取一定的工程技术措施。

The stability and deformation of soft clay grounds beneath large storage tanks are two important problems which should well be con- sidered in the engineering practice.These two problems,including the methods of analysis and estimate,were investigated herein by using the data obtained from the field observations of several items during the water loading tests of the storage tanks of a petro chemical factory near Shanghai.A mathod of controlling the rate of loading and its criterion were also suggested.

本文为上海软土强度试验资料的初步总结,包括四个部分:关于上海软土地基的天然强度;软土在固结过程中强度增长的规律;稳定分析中的几个问题;上海软土地基预压的一些经验。提出了上海地区自地表以下10~20米范围内天然强度的经验公式;分析了上海某厂22台油罐的充水预压资料;初步探讨了在加荷过程中软土地基的固结规律。从而提出了在软土地基上应考虑适应于固结速率的最佳设计这一观点,以减少工程投资费用。
