The main features and the differences between transition curves of 4 3 4 shape and 3 power improved shape which has been adopted by English,French and German high speed railways are discussed in this article.

In this paper, using the improved method of strained parameter, the authors obtain the periodic solutions and the transition curves of Mathieu equation when the amplitade of the parameter excitation is not small.

In this paper, the improved strained parameter method is used to obtain the periodic solutions and the transition curves of Mathieu equation with damping coefficient,when the amplitude of the parameter excitation is not small.

The results show that the transition curves obtained closely(agree) with those in Ref. [7],while the stability domain obtained here is more reasonable than that in Ref. [7],which is proved by numerical method.
