The end products of biogas fermentation from organic matters under anaerobic conditions are methane and carbon dioxide.In biogas fermentation in rural areas as well as in anaerobic treatment of organic wastes and wastewaters in urban districts,degredation of organic matters and effect of waste treatment can be assessed by the amount of biogas production.In this article,the amount of biogas production from 18 sorts of organic matters were calculated according to Buswell's formula and suggestions of revision were given to Buswell's formula for the calculation of biogas production from 3 kinds of high molecular organic matters.In addition,among the 18 organic matters mentioned above,the authors selected 10 and determined their methane convertien rates.The resuts showed their convertion rates ranged from 73-97%.Finally,the article also gave detailed discussions on the calculation of methane production according to the amount of COD removed from organic matters.

COD/l; COD removal rate 71%; organic matter removal per unit volume of the filter 1.0kg. COD/m~3.d; biogas production rate per unit volume 0.21m~3/m~3.d; methane content of biogas 85%; pH value of discharged water 6.5—7.1. According to the conditions of the test the appropriate height of the filter was determined as 6m(ratio of the internal diameter to the clear height being 1: 3.5—4.0). The technical efficacy indexes of the filter mayreach: hydraulic loading 1.5m~3/m~3.d; COD removal rate 68%; removal rate of organie matter 1.6kg.COD/m~3.d; set volume or the facility 625m~3/tonue COD removed.d; gas production rate 0.313m~3/m~3.d.
