The loads directly act on the frame. Our problem is to analyse the stresses both in the plate and in the frame. The method of solution this paper suggests consists in using the trigonometric series together with the principle of minimum strain energy. On the basis of having satisfied the bi-harmonic equation for the plate, the requirement that along the connecting lines of the plate and the frame the displacements should be compatible is expressed by the condition that the strain energy of the whole system has to be minimum. Thus, we get a system of infinite simultaneous equations, from which to determine the necessary unknown coefficients. This article discusses two different loading conditions: the one concerns four concentrated loads at the middle of each sides of the frame, the other is for concentrated loads at each corner of the frame. From the rasults obtained, it can be known that the solution converges. very rapidly.

    A formula for determining the critical pressure of elastic buckling of an elliptic cylindrical shell under uniform pressure is developed by the energy-method. The calculation of pressure of the shell of this kind is greatly simplifiedby the use of a decay e-k(?) factor. The treatment of the radius curvature of the cross section has been simple and effective. The test data of some steel models are included.

The characteristic- parameter πR/L in Mises formula is replaced by αR/L in which the coeffieient α depents ou geometry characteristic of jointed shell. The conception of "equivalent cylindrical shell" results, therefore, from the si- milarity Detween two formulas. When the cone-cylinder jointed shell is concave, the asymptotic analysis of funda- mented equation exhibits an unfavorable geometric relation which will reduce greatly the buckling resistance of shell membrance. This unfavorable shape of concave jointed shell has been discovered early in our research(2) work, here it is once again demonstrated.
