The features of die design are discussed and a conceptual model is proposed for series design of die. On the basis of this model, an independent data set, the series factors, for the die parts can be found and the parts are designed. HJDB database system is given which is realized with the support of a relational DBMS and applicable to CAD/CAM of dies.

Feature modelling represents the features of the parts to be stamped in an all-round way, including the shape feature, accuracy feature and material feature. The strip layout module is used to accomplish progressive stamping process planning, which is composed of punching, blanking, bending, drawing and local forming. The constructional design of die is to be carried out in an interactive mode, with a menu system, function selection and die design can be easily performed.
