The disk array technique is an efficient measure to break the Ⅰ/O bottleneck of the com-puter system and is cxtensively studied and developed all over the world.The influence ofthe device fault on the svstem reliability of RAID(Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks)isinvestigated based on the fault tolerance mechanism of RAID. Analysis and calculation showthat the svstem reliability of the disk arrav is worsened with an increase of the number ofdisks and that the allowable time for failure recovery on-line...

The disk array technique is an efficient measure to break the Ⅰ/O bottleneck of the com-puter system and is cxtensively studied and developed all over the world.The influence ofthe device fault on the svstem reliability of RAID(Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks)isinvestigated based on the fault tolerance mechanism of RAID. Analysis and calculation showthat the svstem reliability of the disk arrav is worsened with an increase of the number ofdisks and that the allowable time for failure recovery on-line in RAID is over l0 hours. It hasbeen found that RAID will operate normally as long as the failed disk is replaced or repaired in time.
