Photonic switching is one of the high-tech topics in information electronics, in which information could be directly exchanged in optics. Three different architectures (time, space and frequency-division)are used in high speed and real time switching systems. The broad-band LAN and ISDN in fiber communication will be the main application fields for photonic switching.

A novel photonic switching device based on polarisation switching by optical injection in fibre lasers is investigated. Varies methods for analysing topological equivalence of multistage interconnection networks (MIN's) were reviewed briefly.
