Hongtoushan formation is composed of a volcano-sedi-mentary rock system suffe-ring from mid-depth metamorphism,surrouded by a big mixed granite complex develop-ment.Its ores are complex sulphides,belonging to copper bearring pyrite.The recoverableminerals are mainly:pyrite,pyrrhotite sphalerite and chalcopyrite.The orescontain 1.7% Cu,2% Zn,18% S and a small amount of g old and silver.The deposit was found in 1958.The mine was partially put into stream at the end ofthe 1959,the plant capacity being 600t/d.The throughput increased to 1300t/d in 1969and at present to 2400t/d.The underground mined ores are crushed to minu(?)-200mm and then conveyed toa circular ore bin.With an aerial cable conveyor they are transported to a coarse orebin at the concentrator.The crushing plant is equipped with (?)1650mm standard andshort-head cone trushers,together with vibrating screens,forming a two-stage closedcircuit.The final product size of crushing is minus-14mm,the ratio of reduction being15.The centralized programme control of the crushing operation has been realized.In grinding section,one grate ball mill(2.7m × 3.6m)and the other three sets of thesame type(2.7m × 2.1m)are principal mills;one conical ball mill(2.4m × 1.8m)isauxilliary,forming a closed circuit with spiral classifiers and a hydrocyclone.156 model6A flotation cells are used to produce copper,zinc and sulphur concentrates.Concent-ration flowsheets have been modified four times to improve the metallurgical perfor-mance since the operation start-up.The differential flotation at the beginning of theoperation was changed into the copper-sulphur bulk flotation,the copper concentrategrade was improved by 3% and the recoveries of copper and sulphur increased by 2%and 14% respectively.After introduction of copper-sulphur bulk flotation flowsheetswith two-stage grinding followed by flotation,the recoveries of copper,zinc and sulphurwere increased by 1.5%,3% and 8% respectively.The copper concentrate grading 20%Cu,with a recovery of 95% Cu,has been obtained.By dewatering,the final concentrate moisture content is reduced 10-12%.Thetailings are pumped into the 4Mm~3 railings dam.A portion of tailings water has beenreclaimed for use at the concentrator.In order to make full use of the resource and reduce contamination by wastes,apyrite concentration plant with a capacity of 1500t/d has been built up to treat tai-lings from the dam,the remainder is conveyed to the underground as filling material.

Huanren lead and zinc mineral processing plant lies in the hilly country on theChangbai mountain system in the eastern part of Liaoning province.This plant wentinto operation in 1940,but afterwards its operation was interrupted and productionwas resumed in 1951,its scale gradually enlarged.At present,four kinds of concentratesof copper,lead,zinc and iron are produced.The deposit belongs to the skarns type and in the deposit there are two types ofores:lead-zinc ore and copper-iron ore.The ores contain 0.25% Cu,0.28% Pb,1.16% Zn:in copper-iron ore,iron content is over 20%.The plant includes the following sections:crushing and screening,grinding andclassification,flotation,magnetic separation,water supply,dewatering and tailing di-sposal.The crushing and screening section is the primary closed circuit flowsheet with threestages,the crushing product size being-12mm;the grinding and classifying section isone-stage closed-circuit flowsheet,the classifying overflow containing 40% solids,inwhich-200 mesh accounts for 55-65%.The technological flowsheet is gradually getting perfect after modification for seve-ral times and has got better metallurgical performances.The original designed flowsheetwas the preferential flotation of lead-zinc ore.In 1953,it was modified as the bulkflotation of lead-zinc ore; in 1977,the copper-lead bulk flotation flowsheet with theisofloatable feature was designed due to the increase of the copper content in theores year by year.Copper-lead bulk flotation was carried out first and then copper-leadore was separated with sulphite:lead roughing concentrate contained over 20% Zn andthe zinc removing operation had to be included in the flowsheet,the middling beingreturned to the mill for regrinding and reagent removing.The obtained results were:copper concentrate grade 28.9%,copper recovery 85.6%;lead concentrate content 63.4%,lead recovery 62.7%:zinc concentrate grade 54.5%,its recovery 90.8%.Magnetite in the flotation tailing are recovered by the use of magnetic separation.Iron concentrate with a grade of 66-68% can be obtained by fine screening,regrindingand two-stage cleanings from roughing concentrate.The plant water comes from Hunjiang and stores in high-position water sump.The final tailing contains 25% solids(by weight)and it is pumped to the tailingdam with sand pumps,which can hold tailing for 20-25 years.
