Besides being used in mineral identification, heavy placer minerals can also find application in trace element determination for individual minerals, thus furnishing valuable information for geochemical exploration and hence extend ing geochemical sampling to the field of heavy minerals. In association with major elements, there exist in heavy placer minerals a variety of impurity elements whose types, contents and proportions must have been governed by the geological environment during the formation...

Besides being used in mineral identification, heavy placer minerals can also find application in trace element determination for individual minerals, thus furnishing valuable information for geochemical exploration and hence extend ing geochemical sampling to the field of heavy minerals. In association with major elements, there exist in heavy placer minerals a variety of impurity elements whose types, contents and proportions must have been governed by the geological environment during the formation of the minerals. A study of these elements might throw light on the formation temperature of the miner als, types -of rocks and ore deposits as well as ore potentiality of intrusive bodies. This paper gives a general description of the relationship between the variations in trace elements of more than ten heavy placer minerals and the conditions of geology, rocks and ore deposits, and deals with the possibility of utilizing these data in geochemical prospecting.

The differences in major elements,especially refractory elements,or rather,chemical composition among different groups of meteorites,interior planets and outer planets bear witness to the fact that chemical fraetionation took place between the beginning of condensation and the accretion of the solar nebula.As the distance from the sun increases the abundance of refractory elements (e.g.Ca/Si) and the oxidation state increase,while temperature and pressure decrease in the sequence of E (enstatite ehondrite)→IAE (one of the chemical groups of iron meteorite)→H,L,LL (ordinary ehondrite) →CV,CO,CM,CI (carbonaceous ehondrite).These features indicate different nebular temperature and pressure conditions for the environments in which they were formed.Highly reduced meteorites were formed near the sun,and highly oxidized ones,far away from the sun.Therefore,the formation localities of different groups of meteorites can be inferred as:SUN→EH,EL→IAB→H,L,LL→CI,CM,CO,CV→COMETS(≤0.7AU) (≤1AU) (2-4AU) (>5AU)On the basis of the core-mantle structure the chemical composition and the physico-chemical conditions of formation of the terrestrial planets,the results of simulating experiments on magmaitism in the Jilin meteorite and the comparison with that in other meteorites have led us to believe that the primitive materials responsible for Mercury are EH and EL chondrites,for Venus,TAB iron meteorites,for the Earth,TAB and H-ch-ondrites,for Mars,H.L,LL chondrites; those responsible for the -Jovian planers are carbonaceous chondrites and comets.
