This new refining process is termed "ladle-refining" or "secondary steelmaking". A strong trend of carrying out the steel refining operation in the ladle in stead of the furnace has been observed in the principal steel-producing countries. This new refining process is termed "ladle-refining" or "secondary steelmaking". It is discussed in three parts: (a) The development of various ladle-refining process including vacuum(or decreased pressure) refining and normal pressure refining such as synthetic slag treatment, argon stirring (Gazal, CAB, and SAB processes), vacuum degassing (VC, SLD, TD, TD-VC, TD-SLD, RH, DH, Finkl and Gazad processes), ladlerefining with arc-heating (ASEA-SKF, Finkl-VAD and LF Processes), jet metallurgy (CAB/TN and SL processes), and stainless steel refining (AOD, CLU, VOD, SS-VOD, K VOD/VAD, RH-OB and VODC processes); (b) present situation of secondary steelmaking technology in China; (c) problems to be solved for successful adoption of secondary steelmaking prooesses. Besides, there are technical data concerning secondary steelmaking process shown in attached tables and figures.

The melting temperatures of certain slags containing chromic oxide have been determined. The presence of 2%Cr_2O_3 decreases the slag formation temperature by 30~80℃, while more than 4% Cr_2O_3 in the slag raises the slag formation temperature to about 1450℃. Thus, if the Cr_2O_3 concentration in the slag is maintained below 4%, it should not be difficult to refine chromium-containing hot metal.

测定了含Cr_2O_3炉渣的成渣温度.渣中含有少量(≈2%)Cr_2O_3,可使成渣温度下降30~80℃,Cr_2O_3含量超过4%,成渣温度又上升到1450℃±.因此在吹炼含铬铁水时,若渣中Cr_2O_3含量控制在4%以下时,吹炼操作不会有困难.在吹炼含铬半钢情况下,若用红砖作助熔剂,同时炉渣成份控制在下列范围内,CaO/SiO_2=3~5,Cr_2O_3<7%, ∑FeO~20%, Al_2O_3≈3%,,成渣温度火致在1280~1360℃.工业试验证明,吹炼操作顺利,渣化得快,化得透.对红砖的助熔作用也作了初步观察.

ESR is one of the most effective means of removing non-metallic inclusions from steel. Much controversy exists regarding the mechanism of slag removal in ESR process.The ESR process consists of three stages: 1) Formation of dropets on the electrode tip; 2) Droplets falling through the slag; 3) Collection of the metal in a pool at the top of the ingot.In order to find out which is the main step in the refining process, samples are taken from the solid electrode, the molten film on the electrode tip, metal...

Much controversy exists regarding the mechanism of slag removal in ESR process.The ESR process consists of three stages: 1) Formation of dropets on the electrode tip; 2) Droplets falling through the slag; 3) Collection of the metal in a pool at the top of the ingot.In order to find out which is the main step in the refining process, samples are taken from the solid electrode, the molten film on the electrode tip, metal droplets in the slag layer and the final ingot, and quantitative determination of inclusions made by metallographic, chemical and radioisoto pic (indicator zr~((?)5)O_2) methods.From the results obtained it is concluded that the removal of non-metallic Inclusions occurred mainly at the electrode tip.Results of experiments on industrial furnaces have confirmed the above conclusion.

在现代电冶金中,电渣重熔是有效地去除钢中非金属夹杂物主要手段之一。但电渣重熔去除夹杂物机理的研究还存在着分岐。电渣重熔有三个阶段:1.电极端头熔滴形成期;2.熔滴滴落穿过渣池阶段;3.铸锭顶端液态金属熔池凝固阶段。为了查明哪一阶段是精炼主要阶段。我们制取了自耗电极原始金属;电极端头金属熔化薄膜;渣池中的金属熔滴及凝固铸锭金属试样。用金相法,化学分析法及放射性同位素(Zr~(95)O_2)方法测定各阶段提纯效果及夹杂物去向。研究得出结论:电渣重熔去除钢中非金属夹杂物主要发生在电极熔化端头。上述结论在工业试验中得到进一步验证。
