This protective effect reached its peak at 30—60 min. following the administration of the extract. Thereafter, it gradually decreased, and by the end of 4 hours, the anticonvulsant activity was reduced to nearly one half. 2. Analgesic activity: The modified method of Reinhard de Beer Grewal was followed. The results obtained revealed that even relatively large dose of Tian-Ma extract given intraperitoneally did not show any marked analgesic activity. 3. Acute toxicity: The LD_(50) of intraperitoneally administered Tian-Ma extract for male adult mice (allowed free access to food and water) and female adult mice (withdrawal of food 8 hours before experiment) were 61.4g (crude drug)/kg. and 51.4 g (curde drug)/kg. respectively, indicating that the toxicity of Tian-Ma is of low order.

    The present work deals with morphological changes of the synaptic structures in the spinal cord of adult mice after a single dose of x-irradiation. The animals used in this study consist of 22 male albino mice weighing from 25 to 30 grams. Total exposure of the mice to a single dose of 500 r. x-irradiation was made under the following conditions: 180 Kv, 10 mA, a radiation rate of 33 r/min at a distance of 30 cm, filter 1.0 mm. Total exposure of the mice to a single dose of 500 r. x-irradiation was made under the following conditions: 180 Kv, 10 mA, a radiation rate of 33 r/min at a distance of 30 cm, filter 1.0 mm. Al+0.5 mm Cu. The animals were killed at 1, 2, 5, 7, 19, 33 days after the treatment with 3 mice in each group. Four normal animals were used. as control Cervical segments were removed from the spinal cord, stained with Golgi-Deineka method; Sections were cut at 10—15μ. One day after irradiation, signs of the injured synaptic structures were visible in the cervical spinal cord as slight swelling of the ring-like boutons. The injured boutons increased in number from the second day onward with further changes in shape and size. The majority of them together with presynaptic fibres showed further swelling and were darkly impregnated. During the last stage of post irradiation, most of the injured boutons underwent disintegration and appeared as granules while some others were gradually returning to normal. It is considered that synapses in the spinal cord of the mice, were much more radiosensitive than they are thought to be.

    长期给成年雄小鼠腹腔注射二乙三胺五醋酸盐(Na_5-DTPA 或 CaNa_3-DTPA)造成了睾丸缩小,精子不能生成,这可能是由于 DTPA 的排锌作用所使然。此时肝锌表观上并不减少,而是肝锰减少,肝铁增加。无论用多么大的剂量都不能在雄大鼠和雄兔身上复制这一现象。
