The steady-state and transient temperature distributions of composite lami- nates under various types of heat conductive boundary conditions are investi- gated by using the quasi-3D finite element method. Each ply is assumed to be transverse1y isotropic. The heat capacity matrix 1umping technique is succes- sfully employed to improve the accuracy of the transient temperature fie1d analysis. The effects of the p1y orientation and the stacking sequence on temperature fields are discussed.

The temperature-dependent thermo-physical properties are considered. A new discrete principle, which includes the magnitude of the incremental time step, the size of discrete element mesh and their optimum matching rule, is successfully employed to improve the accuracy and stability for the numerical analysis of the transient temperature field. Some numerical results are presented for a [0°/90°]s graphite/epoxy T300/5222 composite laminates. Certain conclusions have been drawn from the results.
