The silicone oil with very high stability and electrical insulation isthe synthetic organic silicone fluid by chemical method.In order to deter-mine its probability as the working media of ultra-high pressure apparatus at800 MPa and 400℃, an experimental equipment for measurement of electri-cal resistivity of silicone oil at high pressure and high temperature hasbeen designed.The electrical resistivity of methyl silicone oil, the visco-sity of which is 10 cs or 50 cs,and that of ethyl silicone oil, (ElectricalInsulating oil No.1) and theirs volumetric compressibility have been mea-sured.The highest temperature is 480℃ and the highest pressure is 830 MPain the measurements.It is shown that the electrical resistance of siliconeoil is not distinctly related to pressure but closely related to temperature.The electrical resistivity of methyl silicone oil of two different vitcositiesis greater than 1×10~(14)Ω-cm, and that of ethyl silicone oil is greater than2.5×10~(13)Ω-cm at room temperature. when temperature rises, the electricalresistivity of silicone oil will decrease. But when tempreature rises up to400℃,the electrical resistivity of methyl silicone oil is still greater than1×10~(10)Ω-cm, and that of ethyl silicone oil is still greater 3×10~9Ω-cm. Morever, volumetric compressibility of several liquid media has beenmeasured.It is shown that, the volumetric compressibility is about 0.74at 700-1000 MPa for various liquid media. Measurements of the electrical resistivity of silicone oils provide uswith useful data for making choice of silicone oil as working media atultra-high pressure and high temperature. And, it is proved that the heat-ing method of using higher voltage and lower current and soaking the wirein the silicoe oil is feasible.This is a useful experience for designing theinternal heater of ultra-high pressure apparatus.
