For the purpose of utilizing electrical conductivity of paddy soils as an index of soil fertility,both field measurements and laboratory studies were undertaken.A specially prepared conductivitycell with fixed distance between the platinum electrodes was used in field measurements.It was found that for acid and neutral paddy soils of Central China,the electrical conductivityof the plowed layer showed a close correlation with the fertility status of the soil in the majorityof cases,especially in the early period...

For the purpose of utilizing electrical conductivity of paddy soils as an index of soil fertility,both field measurements and laboratory studies were undertaken.A specially prepared conductivitycell with fixed distance between the platinum electrodes was used in field measurements.It was found that for acid and neutral paddy soils of Central China,the electrical conductivityof the plowed layer showed a close correlation with the fertility status of the soil in the majorityof cases,especially in the early period of plant growth.The specific conductivity of the soildecreased and the difference in conductivity between soils became less conspicuous gradually withplant growth,presumably due to the adsorption of nutrient ions by the rice roots.Anotherevidence supports this supposition,in which the electrical conductivity of the rhizosphere appearedto be less than that of the bulk of the soil.The increase in electrical conductivity after water-logging showed considerable difference betweenfertile and infertile soils of the same type,especially for the acid paddy soils with low base status.The increase in conductivity was found to be due chiefly to the decomposition of organic matter.It was suggested that the increase in electrical conductivity after water-logging might be used as anindex in detecting the supplying power of plant nutrients of soils.The electrical conductivity due to the charged clay particles was found to be negligibly small,and the variation in water content within the range commonly found in paddy fields showedno remarkable influence on conductivity.The electrical conductivity of separeted soil solution wasfound to be due chiefly to salts of calcium and magnesium,and to a lesser extent to potassium salts.

Pot experiment with barley as the indicator crop was carried out by using chemical methods and kinetic electroultrafiltration technique to study the relationship between the uptake of K by barley and the potassium status of the different soils. We hope that this investigation will lead to the development of a method for quick test of K and its recommendation particularly suitable for graminaceous crops, and that it will lay foundation for the study of the Ksup plying status of rice soils.The results from the pot experiment indicate that the total uptakes of K by barley from the soil in the form of exchangeable K and of slowly available K were 19.9—39.0% and 61—80.1% respectively. The total amount of K taken up by barley is 1.6—2.7 times that of soil exchangeable K. The correlation between the growth of barley as well as its total uptake of K and the amount of K absorbed from slowly available soil K is highly significant (0.9908 and 0.9884 respectively). All this shows that the slowly availbale K is the main source of K taken up by the graminaceous crop (barley).The conventional chemical methods give only the amount of available nutrient present in the soil, whereas the electroultrafiltration (EUF) technique cangive the K concentration, quantity, buffer capacity and K fixation in a single run.The correlation between the EUF value in mgK/100g soil/35min, and the total growth of barley as well as its total uptake of K is very high. By regulating the voltage applied and the duration of time, EUF technique gives very useful information about the K status of the soil.From the experiment, we come to the following conclusion: the K supplying intensity, quantity and buffer capacity of Xinghua clay and Nanjing yellow clay loam are all high and these soils are not deiicient in available K. However,Nanjing yellow clay loam has the highest fixation capacity of K. The supply power of Hanjiang soil is lower than the average. The supplying intensity,quantity and buffer capacity of Yixing silty-soil are the lowest and this soil is deficient in available K.

The application of Balancing Transformers as a main transformer in tractivesubstation to supply power to electrified railway is nowadays an advanced te-chnique of power supply in the world. The R & D of this advanced electricalpower equipment have also great significance in saving electrical energy. Thisinvestigation explains that electrical energy may be supplied directly from3-phase power network to unbalanced load by means of Balancing Transfor-mers without another auxiliary measures being taken,in the meantime the three-phase symmetry of power system may not be destroyed. In this paper, fromthe angle of constructional design, We compared four connected types of Ba-lancing Transformers such as SCT, LBL, KBL, MWB used in engineering withtwo new connected types of Balancing Transformers such as AWB, MLB givenby Tong-Ji University, it follows that there is higher economic benefits of theAuto-Woodbridge connected Balancing Transformer (abbr. AWB), and a ma-thernatical mould of construction of AWB is established by matrix transforma-tions, and it is demonstrated that the Auto-Woodbridge connected BalancingTransformer has better adaptability and flexility. Therefore it can be suitablefor the AT power supply of tractive network. Finally, from the standpointof operation the AWB's connected mark,the equivalent circuit, and the opera-tional characterisctics including the ratio of voltage regulation, the degree of dissymmetry of voltage and/or current, the priniciples of load distributionand the variation of power factor, etc. have been discussed as well in thispaper.

应用平衡变压器作为牵引变电所中的主变压器向电气化铁道供电,是当今世界上先进的供电技术。研制这种先进电力设备,对于节约电能亦具有重要意义。本文阐明通过平衡变压器可由电力网直接向不平衡的负荷供电,勿需采取其他辅助措施,而不破坏供电系统的三相对称性。文中就结构设计角度,把目前工程上应用的四种接线平衡变压器:SCT、LBL、KBL、MWB,与同济大学研究提出的二种新型接线平衡变压器:AWB、MLB作了比较,说明自耦伍德桥结线平衡变压器(AWB)有较高的经济性;又用矩阵变换的方法,建立AWB平衡变压器结构的数学模型,并论证AWB平衡变压器具有很好的适应性和灵活性,可以与牵引网的AT供电方式相配合。最后,本文从运行角度讨论了AWB的接线组别、等值电路、电压调整率、电压不对称度和电流不对称度、负荷分配的原则,和功率因数变化等运行特性。
