The formation of σ-phase in a 18% Cr 11% Ni 2.6% Mo 0.8% Ti stainless steel has been investigated. Microscopic and X-ray examinations showed that the formationσf σ-phase from δ-ferrite was accompanied by the formation of austenite, the reaction being most rapid at 850℃

The determination of calcium by atomic absorption method in an air-acetylene flame is studied with emphasis on experimental conditions, its interfering factors and elimination of the latter. The method of standard addition is employed in the blank and the sample solutions with addition of releasing agents for determining trace amounts of calcium in steel. It is found that the method is simple and rapid and can be used in practical analysis.

The sample is decomposed with nitric acid and, after filtration, the amount of silver in the filtrate is directly aspirated. The residual matter after nitric acid treatment is dissolved in aqua regia. A solvent extraction of gold with methyl isobutyl ketone is recommended prior to its determination. This method can be used for the determination of gold and silver in copper at levels 0.250 and 0.5-500...
