The copolymerization with grafting of MMA on wood cellulose can be initiated by two initiation systems containing tertiary aromatic amines: (1) N, N-dimethylaniline (DMA)~benzyl chloride (BC); (2) DMA~BC~acetie acid (HAt). In this paper, the concentration of initiators, reaction temperature, reaction time and their effects on apparent grafting efficiency (G_a) and anti-shrinkage efficiency (ASE) value have been studied. The experimental results indicated that these two initiation systems are effective and the pronounced effects of the third component (HAc) on increasing in G_a and ASE value ale also observed. Under proper reaction conditions, G_a value can be raised as high as 20% and ASE value to 47%.

The size of PVC particles and the grafting efficiency of EVA all depend on the feeding ratio-VC/EVA (wt/wt) of a graft polymerization. With decreasing the feeding ratio in the graft gel, the Tg of EVA increases, while the molecular weight and PVC content all decrease. One explanation for this could be suggested that the number of VC grafting points in EVA-VC increases with decreasing the feeding ratio. EVA-VC as an adhesion agent exists between two incompatible phases-EVA(14) and PVC, which makes the Tg(EVA) and the Tg(PVC) near to another.

The grafting of n-Butyl Acrylate (BA) on suspension-grade PVC(swollen with the monomer) has been studied. The dynamic equation ofgraft copolymerization of BA onto PVC is obtained, and the influence ofthe reaction temperature and starting monomer concentration on the gr-afting efficience is described. The initiator concentration has no influenceon the grafting efficiency.
