A convexity theorem for noncommutative gradient flows

In this survey we shall prove a convexity theorem for gradient actions of reductive Lie groups on Riemannian symmetric spaces.

In the final section the theorem is applied to gradient actions on other homogeneous spaces and we show, that Hilgert's Convexity Theorem for moment maps can be derived from the results.

We observe that our methods clearly show that the restriction p>amp;gt;2n/n+1 is closely related to cancellation and size properties of the gradient of the Poisson kernel.

In order to study the deep crustal structure of the Central part of North China Plain, a profile of deep seismic sounding has been made. This profile starts from Yuanshih Hsien (元氏县), Hopei Province, at its west end and Tsinan, Shantung Province at its east end. The total length is about 270 km.On the profile are 9 shooting points, constituting a continuous system of observations by correlative meeting and pursuing recording. Based on the kinematic and dynamic characteristics of the waves, we can recognize many primary reflected and head waves, together with multiple reflected waves. In this region, the crust can be divided into seven layers of alterate higher and lower velocities. The overage thickness of the crust is 35-36 km. The overlying material has an average velocity of 6.0 km/sec, while the layer velocity of the top of upper mantle is 8.1 km/sec.In this region, the crust is composed of an inhomogeneous medium of many layers. It consists of intercalated layers of high velocity gradients.Finally, it is given here the velocity distribution in the crust and in the upper mantle together with a model of the crust.

During the 18 months before the earthquake the short levelling base line at the Jin Xian (金县) station, about 200 kms from the epicenter, recorded a set of data involving several stages of crustal deformation : the initial stable state of the ground surface, then beginning of tilting in one direction, followed by tilting in the opposite direction and stages of rapid tilting and finally slow variation of the tilt direction. Such a sequence of observations provided one of the bases for intermediate and short term prediction of the Haicheng Earthquake. Surveys made after the earthquake give the magnitude and the area of the deformation associate with the earthquake. The stress condition inferred from crustal deformation observation seems to be in good agreement with that inferred from other observations.In The Haicheng Earthquake prediction, a rather successful attempt was carried out in a way by combining observations of crustal deformation at fixed stations, along lines arid over a broad area and also combining closely with other kinds of observations.

They are closely related to the ult-rabasic intrusions emplaced in Precambrian metamorphics.Judging from the P-T conditions estimated by Fe++-Mg being distributed between coexisting clinopyroxenes and garnets in eclogites as well as the average thermal gradient of Precambrian shield it is concluded that the basic eclogite might have originatedat a depth of 100km. whereas the ultrabasic eclogite at a depth of 40-60km.
