The solar-to-electrical conversion efficiency of the photoelectrochemical cell p-InP/ VC13-VC12-HC1/C reaches 18.8%, when the surface of the p-InP photocathode is modified with Ag and doped witt Sn and the back contact is made with Cu. The effect of surface modification with Ag, Cu etc. has been examined. Among them, Ag shows the best performance, the fill factor is improved and the conversion efficiency is raised about 40%. When the back surface of the photocathode is electrodeposited with Cu and annealed properly, the conversion efficiency of the cell is improved for 28% in comparison with those made with the ordinary Au-Zn ohm contact. It shows that the back contnct made with electrodepesited Cu plays a prominent effect in the performance of the cell.
