When the hob of small pressure angle cuts gears of different number of teeth, theheight of teeth obtained will be different from the normal value. When the actual number ofteeth Z' is greater than the design number Z, tha actual height of the teeth obtained will be lessthan the normal value. On the other band, if Z'gear cut by the hob of small pressure angle may be under cut, or its fillet willinterfere with the corner of its mating gear. The author has worked out the range of gearscut by the hob of small pressure angle. The lower limit of the range is subject to the con-dition of under cut, while the upper limit is determined by the condition of interference, andwithin the range the value of △h must be considered accordingly. The author has also workedout diagrame for actual use, and from these diagrams he proposed the system for the hob. The teeth top thickness of the hob is also discussed, under general conditions the hob ofsmall pressure angle is, in this respect, more beneficial than tbe ordinary hob.

(3) the difficulty in judging actual "safe" allowable stresses and (4) no comment on tooth correction.

This paper introduces the procedure of making and test of a small powe harmonic drive,and gives an analysis and discussion on the engagement,tooth form,the selection of the material of the flexible gear,its strength and the construction of the harmonic drive,etc.
