The characteristics of the miscible process of micelles with oil and water and its effect on the displacement efficiency of slugs are discussed, on the basis of changes in phase volume and phase behavior observed in the selfmiscible process of 150 different sample micelles with oil and water. The miscible process of micelles with oil and water may be considered as a process of self-diffusion process of dilatating micelles and described with Faik's Second Law. The rate of miscibility of micelles with oil increases and of micelles with water decreases with the increasing salt content of water,But, the presence of salt of any amounts in water may cause both dilution emulsification and extractive emulsification in the miscible process of micelles with oil and water. Micelles may thus be classified into 4 types. Results from displacement experiment have indicated that different types of micelles have different displacement efficiency. This should be taken into account when a micelle slug is selected. Generally, the displacement efficiency of type I slug is the highest. But, in case of a high surfactant content in type I slug, even better results can be expected by using the combination micelle slug of types Ⅲ→Ⅱ

A new emulsifier of nou-ionic type surfactant, its laboratory preparation and field application are presented. Refinery by-product naphthenic acid reacts with diethanolamine to form salt, which is in turn dehydrated to form amide. Inverted emulsion drilling mud treated with this product and other conventional emulsifier is stable at high temperature above 150掳C and yields good suspension. Field test on 3 wells in Zhongyuan Oil Field gave good results.

This paper studies the optimum formulation of petroleum sulfonate-oil-brine systems to obtain minimum interracial tension and maximum displacement effeci- ency.The solubilization parameters are enhanced from 10 to 14 by a application of new type of synthesized petroleum sulfonate,mixed with selected alcohols ele- ctrolytes.The interracial tension between microemulsion and oil or water is on the order of 10~(-3) dynes cm~(-1),nearly the same as the values obtained by a study group in Exxon production research company,The quantities of surfactants required are greatly reduced due to the enhancement of solubilization parameters. In order to obtain an optimum formulation of surfactant-oil-brine system, the effects of the average equivalent molecular weight of petroleum sulfonate, the chain length and amounts of alcohols as well as mixed alcohols and electr- olytes on the solubilization parameters,optimum salinity and the properties of low interfacial tension are studied separately. Experiments show that the solubilization parameters increase with chain length of alcohols and the optimal salinity decreases.When a kind of mixed alcohol and electrolyte is added,the low interfacial tension will occur in a wi- de range of salinity,therefore,the system is compatible with various formati- on waters. The oil displacement test show that oil recovery is increased by 30% and water cut is reduced from 98% to 50% under the condition of optimal salinity. When 0.2 PV of petroleum sulfonate-oil-brine system with 5% sulfonate conce- ntration is injected,oil recovery can be increased by 20%.
