The traditional method of manual meterage and protrac tion is inaccurate and will potentially be harm to the historic relics. Recent t heoretical and technological breakthroughs in mathematical modeling of 3D data a nd data-capturing techniques present the opportunity to advance traditional stud y methodology of archaeology into new realms of quantization. This paper analyse s the parameters in the sphere and cylinder projection of digitized prehistoric pottery, proposes the technique of symmetry calculation in quantitative analysis , and therefore introduces a new quantitative method, digitization study on shap e feature of prehistoric pottery for archaeological research. It is used to lear n vessel uniformity and proportionality for different functions as indicators fo r developing craft specialization and complex social organization among Indian p rehistoric cultures.

文物形状研究是考古学的重要内容,传统的手工测量和绘制方法是粗略、不精确的,且易造成文物损伤。随着计算机图形学、图像处理等学科的发展以及二维、三维数据获取设备的普及,传统文物研究手段和方法正在发生深刻的变革。该文以美洲印地安陶器定量化研究为例,描述了文物的三维数字化方法,分析了数字化文物的几何造型中基于球面和柱面组合投影的参数化方法,分析了对称性的定量化研究中实际的对称性计算时应解决问题的方法,讨论了数字化研究在考古学中的重要作用。
