In a nuclear power plant, part of U-tube bundle in a steam generator is often required to be blocked up. In this paper, the effect of continuous running of a steamgenerator with part of the tube bundle blocked up on the safety of reactor thermal design has been analysed; and the degree of the effect has been predicated. The paper also discusses some relevant problems and presents briefly the author's opnion of improving the steam generator design.

In addition, the response spectrum method for the tube bundles and the equivalent static loading method for the flow distribution plate and the support plates were also used. For simplicity, the truss-beam model was applied for the vessel and the tube bundle. For the flow distribution plate, the support plates and the lower deck plate, the plate model was applied. Some delails, such as the effective mass, the effective stiffness,the virtual mass, the effective solid plates, the effects of the intervals of the frequency in input response spectrums and the number of nodes, the comparison of the time history method and the response spectrum method were considered.
