Improvement measures include the provision of traffic light signal controls, one way streets and other traffic management schemes.However, the most effective method to relieve traffic congestion is to construct grade-separated interchanges or 'flyover' at busy road junctions.In recent years, a large number of flyovers has been built in Hong Kong due to the continuous programme of highway schemes.A large portion of these flyovers are built in prestressed concrete.This paper attemps to deal with the recent development in the design principles and methods of construction of flyovers in Hong Kong.The design principles are described in general while the methods of construction are outlined with sketches with reference to a particular flyover.
