In the IR spectra, five groups of distinct absorption peaks were observed, and the maximum ab-sorbance lies between 1619-1632cm-1, a region corresponding to the structure of an indole ring.The results of element analysis showed the average gram atomic ratio of C:H:N :O is 10:12:1:3, which matches with the elemental composition of an indole polymer. The results mentioned above revealed that the melanins studied here are sulfur-containing irregular high-polymers consisting of indole structure.
