In this paper, the testing results on the mechanical properties of three clay and one silty clay samples of earth dam construction material by bending tests of earth beams and axial tension tests are presented. A preliminary stress analysis is also made on the dam embankment of a certain project using finite element method. In this paper, the testing results on the mechanical properties of three clay and one silty clay samples of earth dam construction material by bending tests of earth beams and axial tension tests are presented. A preliminary stress analysis is also made on the dam embankment of a certain project using finite element method. The results of computation indicate, that the central cores of earth and rockfill dams may, under unfavorable conditions, e. g., when the shell materials are poorly placed or when the foundation of dam abutments is not properly prepared, subject to tensile stress and tensile strain, and that, when their magnitude exceeds the ultimate strength of the core material, longitudinal and transver- sal cracks may occur. This investigation thus gives a preliminary explanation quantitatively of the causes of occurrence of tensile cracks in earth and rockfill dams.

A nonlinear finite element technique for coupled deformation and consolidation analysis of earth and rockfill dams is presented. In the analysis, the strain-softening behavior of materials is modelled by extended hyperbolic stress-strain relationship, and unsaturated cohesive soils are replaced by materials saturated with equivalent compressible liquid. 文中简要叙述了能适应坝料土基本特性的推广的双曲线应力应变关系模式,根据“拟饱和上”的假设推导了计算非饱和土的固结变形的有限单元法公式,并针对应变软化材料建议了一种变模量和虚荷载相结合的计算方法。通过工程实例分析及与原体观测资料的比较,表明本文所采用的计算模式和计算方法基本上是可行的。

But in the light of the construction of earth rockfill dams at home and abroad, there are a series of problems to be solved in carrying out the requirements stipulated in the specification, such as the testing method of relative density of the coarse materials, the standardization of the method and its theoretical basis, method for determination of the relative density of the materials, method of analysis of practical errors, the confidence level of the representative model of gradation of the materials and some problems in the construction work concerning this material, etc.In this paper problems about continuous grading material as mentioned above are studied.

我国近期颁布的设计规范,对土石坝的无粘性粗粒坝料的要求是以相对密度确定其填筑标准。但是从国内外土石坝建设的实践来看,要满足上述要求,尚存在许多问题。诸如相对密度试验方法的归一化及其理论依据;大粒径材料相对密度的确定方法;相对密度实用误差的分析;代表性级配模型的置信水平以及施工控制中的有关问题等。本文结合石头河土石坝的工程实践,对连续级配材料的上述问题进行了探讨。
