A process has been developed, using a small blast furnace and side-blown converter for collecting niobium and manganese in the OH slag into an enriched intermediate slag, which is used as raw material for the production of ferro-manganese-niobium. Hot metal from Baotou blast furnace contains about 0.08% of niobium and 1% of manganese. The openhearth slag accumulated at that steelplant also retains appreciable amounts of these metals. A process has been developed, using a small blast furnace and side-blown converter for collecting niobium and manganese in the OH slag into an enriched intermediate slag, which is used as raw material for the production of ferro-manganese-niobium. Methods were also experimentally studied for the direct extraction of niobium and manganese from the hot metal. It was found that by properly treating the hot metal in a converter, be it top-blown, side-blown or bottom-blown, at least 80% of the niobium and manganese is oxidized, producing a slag which is in effect an artificial niobiferous manganese ore, that can be used for making niobiferous ferromanganese especially suitable for the production of niobium micro-alloyed high-strength steel. A bottom-blown converter is preferable to the side-or top-blown in that less of the phosphorous will go into the slag, thus simplifying the letter's subsequent processing. A neutral lining (e. g. high alumina brick) would have the advantage of longer life, and higher Nb and Mn as well as lower P content in the slag produced. Large scale tests of a continuous spray extraction process pointed towards considerable potential advantages over the intermittent converter processes.

Aluminium has been produced both by chemical and electrochemical process.The Hall-Heroult process is,basically,an electrochemical process with some features of chemical reductions,but the Alcoa aluminium chloride process is a pure eletrochemical reduction process.The paper has an attempt to give an introduction and make a comment upon Alcoa process.The operating temperatures of this process (~700℃) are substantially lower than that of Hall-Heroult process (~950℃).Relative high current densities,up to 2.5 A·cm-2,can be used.Since the carbon does not react with chlorine gas at the operating temperature,the carbon anodes are inconsumable.Troubles caused by corrosion and emission under fluoride eletrolysis may be avoided.It is said that the energy consumption for such a process can be economized on 30% less than Hall-Heroult process.But it needs very pure aluminium chloride made from pure alumina and petroleum cokes.In this way the total energy consumption for Alcoa process will be bound to increase in result.The major difficulties are the high solubility of metallic aluminium and the high vapour pressures of different aluminium alkali chloride in molten salts.In short,the practical problems encountered in dereloping such an aluminium chloride electrolyzing process have yet to be solved and so putting it into effect on an industrial scale is time-consuming.Obviously,this process can not compete with the Hall-Heroult process in the near future.

The sliding gap is 10mm for silica refractories and 5mm for high alumina refractories. Theresults of experiments show repeatedly that the stove construction is suffered from two effects: themotions of axial expansion and contraction and the sway occurred periodically during operation.Therefore, expansion mechanism should be installed on hot blast lines.

本文概述了鞍钢炼铁厂两种结构型式的外燃式热风炉在生产中的应用情况及结构上存在的问题。在操作制度等其它条件基本相同的情况下,设有陶瓷燃烧器的外燃式热风炉比普通的内燃式热风炉平均风温提高70℃。实践证明,“马琴”式和“新日铁”式外燃式热风炉的缩口角度取62~63°是合理的。滑动缝的设计,对硅砖可取10mm;对高铝砖可取5mm。经过多次反复试验证明。外燃式热风炉在生产中存在着周期地上下涨落运动和摆动,这两种运动对热风炉的结构破坏性很大,因此,在送风系统的管道上应设置膨胀器。
