If the solution is not clear, add a few more drops of HNO_3 and heat repeatedly till a clear colorless solution is obtained. Cool, add 1 ml NaCl solution and 0.5 ml NaNO_2 solution, shake for 2 minutes, then add 1 ml of urea solution. Transfer the mixture to a separatory funnel containing 10.0 ml benzene. Wash the test tube with three portions (5 ml) of distilled water, add 10 drops of malachite green reagent solution and shake the mixture immediately for 5 minutes. Separate the benzene layer in a centrifuge tube and centrifuge 3 minutes to separate the suspended droplets of water. Transfer the benzene solution into a 10 cm cell and measure the extinction with an Ilford 607 filter, using benzene as blank.

The physico-mechanical properties of wet-gel became worse when the temperature or the degree of vulcanization was increased. The properties of dry-film were improved by increasing the degree of vulcanization and became worse on increasing the vulcanizing temperature (while the combined sulphur is constant). The differences in these properties between the wet-gel and dry-film were attributed to the difference in the mechanism of rupture, e.g., inter-globule for wet-gel and intraglobule for dry-film. The effect of vulcanizing temperature was explained by the non-uniform distribution of the intraglobule sulphur-bond in the latex.

It can take a large number of tubes with greater capacity in the extraction train, and permits close mounting in compact racks. "A"is a reservoir (more than 50 ml), "B"is an equilibration cell, approximately 200 ml in volume, the length of the lower part of the cell is adjusted to 50 ml in volume at the time of construction. All the tubes in the apparatus are joined together through "b"and "a"by glass tubing. The extraction train consists of 10 frames of 10 tubes each mounted in a rack rotating on a main shaft, as shown in figure 3. A filling dipper shown in figure 1, (3) is joined to "b"'of the first tube.
