The physical characteristics of whistler ducts in Earth's magnetosphere is inquired theoretically. By using two kinds of model of ducts in which the VLF electromagnetic waves are guided, we obtain the distributions of magnetic field and current in the whistler duets. When the magnetic field deviates from potential or force-free field, the field-aligned current can be produced, and it relates closely with the intensity and lifetime of ducts. This equipment has been used in Beijing (Geomag. Lat. 28.9#N) since the summer of 1979, and some new results were obtained. They are: 1. the maximum of relative intensity of whistlers is situated between 1 kc/s-4 kc/s rather than 4 ke/s-6 ke/s; 2. it is considerable that the low cutoff frequency of whistler is lower than that of the ground-ionosphere wave-guide.This instrument was used during the period of the solar eclipse at Mohe region (Geomag. Lat. 42.5#N) in the summer of 1981, and some observational results are presented.

Based on the data of whistlers and tweeks observed at San Ya (18.24° N, 109.5° E; magnetic latitude 7.04°N), Hainan, China, the physical features of low-latitude whistlers are studied. The results of observations and theoretical analysis show that the ducted whistlers propagating along the field-aligned ducts can be received at low latitudes. The results show indirectly that the ducts of whistlers also exist in the ionosphere. The critical cutoff latitude of ducted whistlers may be located at the region...
