Ever since the turning of the century, in the literary world of the West, an increasingly large number of works have been dealing with death as their subject matter. A survey of their attitude towards death may reveal the Western attitude towards life today.Death as a literary subject has a long history behind it. This paper first makes a logical alalysis of two literary works with death subject, and then goes a step further to elaborate on the close relationship between man's view on death and the pursuit of his own value. Conclusion: lack of a pre-concept about death usually leads to a vague understanding of life's value. And it is a permanent component of man's value to detach from the death-sensitive mentality, to get rid of the limitation imposed by his physical self and the environment, and thus to pursue a transcendentalistic life, so to speak .

In this paper, a comparative study is done on the poems written by William Wordsworth, a brilliant British romantic poet of the turn of the 18th and the 19th centuries, and those written by Tao Yuan-ming, a famous Chinese idyllic poet in Jin Dynasty. The two poets belong to a similar cult, the worship of nature.
