Shikonin derivatives,the naphthoquinone pigments in the roots of the plants comfrey,have been also produced by cell cultures.In order to provide the evidence for widely using the pigments in different areas,attempts have been made to compare the physical and chemical properties of shikonin derivatives between cell cultures and roots of the plant.The results demonstrate that there are no differences in heat-resistance,oxidation-resistance and color changes at different pH values,showing the similar stabilities...

The major components in the product are recognized to be similar to those in the roots according to TLC,TLC scan and reversed-phaseHPLC analyses.Only the ratio of some components is different.
