The distributions are referred to the kinds of gland-steam sealing systems before and after improved.Computation based on the finite element method has been carried out with the computer type 709.From the calculated result, the improved gland-steam sealing system must lead to increasing the temperature and thermal stress of gland metal,but they do not exceed the permissible limits.On the other hand,the improved systems appropriately solved the problems about excess expansion difference of the H.P.cylinder and excess temperature difference of its inner shell. The improved design is reasonable.

Based on the theoretical analysis and the experience of many experimental tests, author presents a calculation method for the heat transfer in utility boiler furnaces. The effects of furnace heat transfer characteristics, low excess air Xl", water wall contamination as well as furnace geometric shape h/ds on heat transfer performance were taken into account in this method.
