In this paper, we discuss the upper bound and lower bound on the asymptotic error performance of TCM, and with emphasis investigate an analytical method for BER upper bounds by using error state diagram and generating function. As an example, we calculate the Euclidean distance spectrum...

Trellis-Coded Modulation (TCM) is an advanced combined coding and modulation technique evolved in recent years. In TCM, significant coding gains can be obtained without bandwidth expansion or reduction of transmission rate. In this paper, we discuss the upper bound and lower bound on the asymptotic error performance of TCM, and with emphasis investigate an analytical method for BER upper bounds by using error state diagram and generating function. As an example, we calculate the Euclidean distance spectrum of error paths under viterbi decoding and BER upper bound for four-state Trellis-coded 8 PSK. Computer simulations are also performed. The results show that the BER performance obtained from computer simulations is closed up to the upper bound obtained from the analytical method.

网格编码调制(TCM)是近年来提出的一种先进的组合编码调制技术,在不降低信息传输率、不扩展占用频带的前提下,它能获得可观的编码增益。本文讨论网格调制编码的上、下限渐近特性,重点研究了用错误状态转移图和生成函数求误比特率上限的解析方法。以四状态网格编码8 PSK系统为例,计算了维特比译码时错误路径的欧氏距离谱及由此得到的误比特率上限。文中还对该系统进行了计算机模拟。实验结果表明,本文所介绍的计算误比特率上限的解析方法其结果与计算机模拟结果相当接近。

A new scheme for the coded spread spectrum multiple access (SSMA)systems is presented.The new scheme empluys a four-dimensional modulation whichcombines the FSK and PSK niodulations.The correspunding receiver structure is dis-cussed and a realization method is given.The bandwidth expansion and performancecomparisons show that the scheme presented here is more attractive over the codedMPSK SSMA systems.
