Demantoid is a rare precious gen mineral.The mineral-Cr-demantoidreported in this paper has been discovered for the first time in China.Chemicalanalysis,X-ray powder diffraction,M(o|¨)ossbauer spectroscopy,IR and visibleabsorption spectrometry have revealed that the end-member molecules of andra-dite contained in Xinjiang demantoid are more than 90%,close to the pure end-me(?)ber compositon.The content of Fe~(2+) is beyond the detection limit of M(o|¨)-ssbauer spectroscopy.The green colour is related to Fe~(3+) in the octahedral site,while the presence of trace Cr~(3+)makes the mineral more jade green.It is con-sidered from the geological occurrence and mineral association of demantoidthat under the action of residual volatiles in ultramafic rock bodies olivine andpyroxene would be replaced by serpentine,creating a crystallization environmentcharacterized by A1/Fe enrichment.Metasomatism by magmatic hydrothermalsolutions through the fissure of serpentinite in the later stages promoted thecrystallization and precipitation of demantoid in asbestos veins.Local compression and dislocation gave rise to"massive"demantoid cemented by serpentineasbestos.Evidence shows that the trace Cr in demantoid was derived from chro-mite and Cr-spinel in the ultramafic rock bodies.

翠榴石(Demantoid)是一种稀少的贵重宝石矿物。本文的新疆含铬翠榴石在我国属首次发现。通过化学成分、X射线粉晶衍射、穆斯堡尔谱、红外及可见吸收光谱等测定确认,新疆翠榴石所含钙铁榴石端员分子均在90%以上,接近于纯端员组成,Fe~(2+)含量低于穆斯堡尔谱最低检出界限。在这里,绿色与占据八面体位置的Fe~(3+)直接相关,而微量Cr~(3+)的存在则使其翠绿色色调大大加强。结合翠榴石产出地质条件及矿物共生组合分析可以认为,在超镁铁质岩体中残存的挥发分作用下出现了橄榄石、辉石被蛇纹石交代的现象,形成贫铝富铁的结晶环境。后期侵入的岩浆热液沿蛇纹岩裂隙交代促使石棉脉中翠榴石的结晶沉淀,而局部范围内的挤压错动则造成了由蛇纹石石棉“胶结”的翠榴石“团块”,翠榴石中含的微量铬来源于超镁铁质岩中的铬铁矿和铬尖晶石。

However, there more works of geological survey of mine need to be done and the techniques of mining and processing remain to be improved,Proceeding from actual conditions,we,therefore,suggest to enanhce the geologic work,to lay out the working plan reasonably,to increase the variety of the building material and the quality of products,and to pay attention to the synthetic utilization,whereby a better ecouomic beneficial result shall be obtained.

湖南省建材大理石资源丰富,矿床类型齐全、品种繁多,其中以沉积型建材大理石为主,分布广,储量大。主要品种有双峰黑、邵阳黑、宜章黑、墨玉、紫鹃、桃花石、龟纹石等,集中分布在湘中及湘西北。接触变质型大理石多产在湘南及湘中各花岗岩体周围,主要品种有汉白玉、宁白玉等。近年来本省建材大理石生产得到了发展,相继建成十几家大理石板材厂,但矿山地质工作不够、开采与加工技术有待提高。建议从实际出发,加强地质工作,合理布署,增加品种,提高产品质量,注意综合利用,方能取得好的经济效益。

桃源县芭茅洲大理石有“桃花石”和“墨玉”两种,分别赋存于奥陶系下统桃花石组和盘家咀组上段内,为浅海沉积型缓—中等倾斜层状矿床。矿区西部以“桃花石”为主,可分“紫玫瑰”、“春桃红”、和“夏荷绿”三个品种,为厚、巨厚层状生物屑泥晶灰岩;东部以“墨玉”为主,为黑色厚—巨厚层状含云质(化)泥质灰岩。矿层稳定,出荒率及成材率较高,具较好的装饰性和物理力学性质。
