And the results suggest that the rate is a chemical controlling one in the initial period of the synthesis, and the coefficient of the catalysts surface is of 0.98 (with space velocity 1000 hr~(-1), CO conversion 90% or so). When the catalysts pore volume are plugged up by the high boiling point products (whether the pore to be micro or macro), the rate becomes an internal diffusion controlling one, and the effectiveness of the catalytic surface changed into 0.082. The calculated coefficient of diffusion is of 2.4 10~(-5) cm~2/sec, which is in agreement with the magnitude of liquid-phase diffusion. Under the diffusional controlling conditions, the activity level of catalysts depends upon Deff, ks and Sg, by the rate law k∝2~(1/Deff·ks·Sg.) Where change of effective diffusivity. Deff, under the liquid phase conditions is not essential. But both the specific reaction rate, ks, and the effective surface, Sg are the major factors to the catalytic activity improvements. Therefore the precipited iron catalysts, owing to its high specific surface area and high specific activity, may be the promising one of the granular catalysts suitable for the high space velocity synthesis.

The nature and the reaction mechanism of the polarographic wave of Dipterex on dropping mercury electrode have been studied systemati- cally in selected Britton-Robinson buffer solution at pH 6. The height of the wave is found to be diffusion controlled by studying the effects of concentration of Dipterex m2/3 t1/5 (i.e.mercury pressure) and temperature on the diffusion current:The current of plateau is proportional to the square root of the effective pressure of mercury and t1/6,and the average temperature coefficient of diffusion current di_d/dT is 1.72%/ degree. The rising portion of the wave (1/10 id)is proportional to t2/3 and the current is dependent on the rate of electrode reaction. The electrons involved in the cathodic reaction measured by millieoulometry is found to be 2. The plot of log i/(i_d-i) VS E_(d.e).yeilds a straight line,and the value of na found from the slope is 0.2592 and a equals to 0.1296. The polarographic data indicate that the ca- thodic wave of Dipterex is an irreversibler eac- tion,and corresponds to a 2 electron reduction. The mechanism of the electrode reaction is due to the reduction of chlorine to chloride ion by prolonged electrolysis at a large mercury cathode and may be represented as follows
