The seed vigour and seedling growth of peanut can be enhanced by seed treat-ment with CaCl_2 or putrescine(Put)and spermine (Spm). The optimal concentration was 0.1m mol/L Put, 0.05mmol/L Spm or 30m mol/L CaCl_2. In treated seeds with CaCl_2 or Put, ethylene release increased obviously.Several Ca-inhibitors decreased ethylene release Moreover, CaCl_2 and polyaminesdecreased the Condustivity, amount of K~+ and soluble protein in leachate of seed.They also increased the activities of peroxidase and catalase. It is suggested thatcalcium and polyamines are available for the repair of membrane permeability.
