In this paper, a new test instrumentation for steering gears is introduced.By continuously monitering and recording the angular speed and torque of steering wheel shaft and pitman arm shaft, the transmission ratio (i)and efficiency (n) can be calculated and plotted on a x-y recorder against angular displacements of steering wheel shaft. In case this shaft is driven, then reverse efficiency can be calculated and plotted.
