Summary "Yaug Hung Shan" (Pimpinella thellungiana) is a herb found in many provinces of China which had been known to be able to induce oestrus in many species of domestic animals. The present study was carried out on 9 mares and 6 donkeys selected with dysfunctional ovaries to observe whether this herb has any gonadotrophic property which is responsible for their ovarian stimulation. preliminary results showed that the ovarian funetions were restored followed by oestrus and ovulation after this herb administration....

Summary "Yaug Hung Shan" (Pimpinella thellungiana) is a herb found in many provinces of China which had been known to be able to induce oestrus in many species of domestic animals. The present study was carried out on 9 mares and 6 donkeys selected with dysfunctional ovaries to observe whether this herb has any gonadotrophic property which is responsible for their ovarian stimulation. preliminary results showed that the ovarian funetions were restored followed by oestrus and ovulation after this herb administration. The follicular devrelopment was checked, by rectal palpation. The estradiol 17B levels in serum at various phases after the drug treatment were measured by radioimmunoassay (RIA). The hormone levels increased gradually after administration of the herb and reached a peak 24—48 hrs before ovulation, ranging from 8.8—29.1. pg./ml in the mares (average 16.4±3 pg./ml) and 4.3—53.2 pg./ml in the donkeys (average 21.46±9.00). The pattern of hormonal profile was well agreed with the follicular development as assessed by rectal palpation. It was confirmed that "Yang Hung Shun" has stimulating effect on the ovaries, however, it was not disclosed whether it acts diretly on ovaries or mediated by the pitutary.Further investigation on the measurment of serum gonadotrophins (FSH and LH) after drug treatment was suggested,

Aedes albopictus larvae collected from Guangzhou area were reared in the laboratory. This species displayed autogeny and the new emerging females could lay eggs without blood meal. Autogeny index varied from 1.96 to 2.96 and autogeny rate varied from 62 to 80% (ovarian follicular development to or beyond Christopher's Ⅲ stage). Ten adult female rhesus monkeys, in condition without regard to their menstrual cycles, were divided into five groups and treated with PMSG or Clomiphene for 4 or 7 days. At 24 hours interval after the last injection, the. animals were treated with hCG. Ovarian and follicular morphology were observed by laparoscopy at prior to hormonal treatment, following 4th or 5th day and after the treatment of hCG, respectively. Their serum estrogen levels were below 220pg/ml. In the groups treated with 1550 IU PMSG and 1000 IU hCG, the ovaries were oedema obviously and several little uplifted reddish folliculi, with diameter 0.1-0.3 cm were seen on the surface of two ovaries. At 48 hr after treatment of 1000 IU hCG, the follicuii were increased markedly, with diameter to 0.3-0.5cm. The serum estrogen concentration reached 636.4 pg/ml, but hadn't ovulation. In the group of treatment with 2000 IU PMSG, the two ovaries of the animals occurred superovulation at 24hr after treatment with 2550 IU hCG.

用孕马血清促性腺激素,总剂量为1550—2000单位,分4—7天处理猕猴,可促使其每侧卵巢出现滤泡超数发育,随后静脉注射入绒毛膜促性腺激素2500单位,在24小时内,猕猴即可出现超数排卵。
