For studying the effects of the concentration of the initiator, temperature and the solvents the polymerization rates of methyl methacrylate have been determined. In the initiation systemsx = 1, 2, 3, the larger is the x, the greater is the initiation rate. The initiation rates of the binary mixture and the quaternary ammonium salt prepared from this binary system were compared. Thus a mechanism for vinyl polymerization initiated by this systemis proposed and the rate equation derived as - d[M]/dt = kp(ki/kt )1/2 [DMA]1/2[BzCl]1/2[M ] .The activation energy of initiation is calculated to be 13.2 kcal/mole in the temperature range from 50 to 70℃.

This paper presents the successful results obtained from redox initiated polymerization of acrylonitrile in concentrated aqueous solution of sodium thiocyanate. The redox systems studied were tertiary-butyl hydroperoxide (TBH) with triethanolamine (TEA), di-ethanolamine (DEA), mono-ethanolamine (MEA) and N,N'-dimethylaniline (DMA) respectively. In the case of TBH-TEA, with mole ratio 1:1 in combination, conversion in one hour was around 90% and the average molecular weight of the polymer obtained was around...

This paper presents the successful results obtained from redox initiated polymerization of acrylonitrile in concentrated aqueous solution of sodium thiocyanate. The redox systems studied were tertiary-butyl hydroperoxide (TBH) with triethanolamine (TEA), di-ethanolamine (DEA), mono-ethanolamine (MEA) and N,N'-dimethylaniline (DMA) respectively. In the case of TBH-TEA, with mole ratio 1:1 in combination, conversion in one hour was around 90% and the average molecular weight of the polymer obtained was around 85,000. It was found that the polymerization rate and conversion percentage for different redox systems were in the following order: TBH-TEA > TBH-DEA > TBH-MEA, and the order of average molecular weight of polymer obtained was just in the reverse. Both the rate of polymerization and the maximum conversion percentage increased with increase either in TBH or amine concentration. In the case of TBH-DMA, the maximum conversion obtained was around 60%, the rate of polymerization also increased with increase in the mole ratio of DMA/TBH, but the ultimate conversion percentage decreased in comparison with the case of the benzoyl peroxide (BPO)-DMA system for styrene as monomer. A possible reaction mechanism of TBH-amine system was then suggested.

The effect of various organic redox of tertiary butyl hydroperoxide-amine (TBH-amine) system on the title polymerization of acrylonitrile was studied. It was observed that the structure of amine bears a significant influence both on the rate of polymerization and on the percentage of conversion. The effect of various organic redox of tertiary butyl hydroperoxide-amine (TBH-amine) system on the title polymerization of acrylonitrile was studied. It was observed that the structure of amine bears a significant influence both on the rate of polymerization and on the percentage of conversion. The decreasing order of the rates of polymerization for various amines was as follows: (C2H5)3N, HEA > TEA > DMA, MEA > TEA-HCl, in which the TBH-TEA redox showed to be the best one with sufficiently high rate of polymerization and high percentage of conversion. Moreover, some parallel relationship between the rate of polymerization and duration of induction was observed, i.e., shorter duration of induction with higher rate of polymerization and vice versa. For tertiary amine-TBH systems, the induction period of polymerization was shown to bear a somewhat parallel relationship with the pKb of amine, i.e., smaller pKb, with shorter duration of induction and vice versa.

本文研究了TBH与各种胺组成的引发系统对丙烯腈水溶液聚合的影响,发现胺的结构对聚合速度与转化率有极大的影响,其聚合速度顺序为:Et_3N、HEA>TEA>DMA,MEA>TEA·HCl。其中以 TBH-TEA体系效果最好,聚合速度快,转化率也高。此外,聚合反应中大致有着这样的规律,诱导期与聚合速度有较明显的平行关系,即诱导期短,聚合速度大,诱导期长,聚合速度小;而诱导期又与这些三极胺的碱性(pK_b)也有一定的平行关系,碱性强的(pK_b小)诱导期短,碱性弱的(pK_b大)诱导期长。 在所用的引发体系中,TBH-TEA及BPO-TEA体系,聚合速度与转化率随着TEA 浓度的增加而增加,但在 TBH-Et_3N、TBH-HEA 及 TBH-DMA 体系时,随着胶的浓度增加前二者聚合速度虽然增加但转化率反而下降,而后一体系则聚合速度与转化率都呈下降。
