These concepts with a history of 5,000 years form such virtues of Chinese nation as being patriotic , modesty, kindness, friendliness, honesty. However, their negative impact led to the Chinese being conservative, lack of innovation and creation and caused modern China less developed. Benefit, strength and reason, the core of traditional western cultural concepts, along with the stimulation of capitalism, make it possible three industrial revolutions and the rapid development of science and technology which create abundant material wealth. On the other hand , they make people homeless in spirit and become "mummies" pursuing benefit as the one and only aim.

The publishing of Chinese version symbolizes the debut of modern international law in China and the very beginning of eastward spreading of international law system. As an expatriate missionary, the reason why Ding Weiliang translated and actively facilitated the publishing of this book is closely correlated with the profound background of the western countries policy towards China with deep peculiar implications. However, objectively, the translation and publishing of this book for the first time gives the personalities in the late Qing Dynasty an opportunity to have a comparatively overall understanding of the international law of the western countries. Moreover, to some extent, the western cultural concepts and international social standards it conveys and carries strike the modern Chinese society undergoing reforms.

《万国公法》是丁韪良在华期间翻译的第一部国际法著作,其中文版的问世是近代国际法正式传入中国的标志,也是国际法学东渐之肇始。身为一介外国传教士,丁韪良翻译并积极谋求出版此书,是与当时西方列强对华政策的深层背景紧密相连的,有其特殊的深层用意。但此书的翻译出版在客观上使晚清人士从正面第一次对西方国际法有较全面的了解,而它所传达的西方文化观念和国际社会规范在一定程度上冲击着变革中的近代中国社会。

In this case, political and moral work plays a very important role in guiding the students to form a correct and scientific outlook on values. Besides, this paper points out the problems therein and their solutions.

分析了在中国传统文化、市场经济以及外来西方文化等多元文化影响下,当代大学生在价值取向上所表现出来的社会本位与个人本位兼顾、理想主义与现实主义并存、人伦关系与功利、效率关系同俱,以及观念意识与行为不相一致的诸多特征和矛盾状态,从而揭示了高校思想政治工作在引导大学生构建科学的价值观所面临的任务和需要把握的若干问题。
