By a general introduction of the structure and principle of Munsell Color Solid, the paper expounds the color-indicating way of Munsell Color System. It further discusses the content of Munsell Color Reconciliation Theory, which provides the theoretical references for applying color in architecture and other designing science.
By using a computer program of Munsell system, it can also realize the conversion from CIELAB color space to Munsell color system , and then calculate the Munsell color phase angle between the tow colors , and finally distinguish the relative hue deviation between tow color surfaces.
The Munsell color system is the most typical color order system,besides which there are the Natural Color System(NCS) and the Uniform Color Scales of the Optical Society of America(OSA-UCS). All these color order systems provide corresponding standard color cards,which have been widely used in industry.
While the color parameters of DH2 family has no distinct difference in Munsell color system. The color parameter L~*, a~* and b~* of DH2-2, DH12-2, DH16-1 and DH33-2 take on significant difference along the axial orientation.
Then the physics value of magnitude L*-, a*, b*~ Cab*, hab* in the surface color of 103 wood color for decorating was measured, and the value of Hue (H) Value (V) Chroma (C) of Munsell Color System was obtained .
In 2001,CIE recommend a new color difference formula CIEDE2000. In this experiment, CIE 1976 L*a*b*,CMC and CIEDE2000 color difference formulae are checked and compared making use of thecharacteristic of Munsell color system, which its samples nearby are of equal perceived color differenceand the Munsell hue, chroma and value can be changed independently.
