    About twenty years ago, one of the present authors (Hsing) described an investigation of the alkaloids of the Chinese drug, Han-fang-chi from which an alkaloid was obtained and proved to be identical with tetrandrine obtained from Stephania tetrandra S. Moore by Kondo. Besides, a second phenolic base was obtained and named as fangchinoline which contains 1C and 2H atoms less than tetrandrine.     About twenty years ago, one of the present authors (Hsing) described an investigation of the alkaloids of the Chinese drug, Han-fang-chi from which an alkaloid was obtained and proved to be identical with tetrandrine obtained from Stephania tetrandra S. Moore by Kondo. Besides, a second phenolic base was obtained and named as fangchinoline which contains 1C and 2H atoms less than tetrandrine. It was proved to be a demethyltetrandrine.In order to locate the position of the phenolic group of fangchinoline, the O-ethylated alkaloid was oxidized by means of potassium permanganate, the known dibasic acid (I) was obtained as in the caso when tetrandrine was oxidized. Consequently, the phenolic group must be located in one of the tetrahydroisoquinoline ring (i) or (ii), and can not occupy a position in one of the banzyl residue, as it does in oxyacanthine or berbamine. Unfortunately the investigation was interrupted owing to the out-break of the war. It was not possible to resume the work until very recenty.In 1961 Tomita made an important contribution in the field of biscoclaurine alkaloids by fission of the aryl ether linkage with metallic sodium in liquid ammonia. The hitherto existing problem of isomerism of the alkaloids of this group is then cleared up. For example, tetrandrine was found to correspond to the formula (II) instead of (II'). O-ethylated fangchinoline was similarily cleaved by this method, the fission of the ether linkage took place as indicated by the dotted line in the formula (II). Two products (III) and (IV) were isolated, compound (IV) was found to be identical with one of the product obtained from tetrandrine by the same method. The free phenolic group must be, therefore, situated in the isoquinoline ring (i), It was found by King that alkaloids containing phenolic group at position 7 of an isoquinoline residue gives a positive Millon reaction, whereas those with a phenolic group at position 6 of an isoquinoline residue shows no reaction. Todd and co-workers, based on the color reactio uggested that the formula of daphnandrine must be represented by (V) or (V), because it gives a positive Millon reaction. If this color reaction is reliable, it appears to us that the free phenolic group of fangchinoline should be located at position 6 in ring (i), because it gives a negative reaction. However, when (III) was oxidized according to the method of Spath, l-oxo-6-methoxy-7-ethoxy-N-methyl-l, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (VI) was obtained. Compound (IV) was also ethylated and oxidized, the same product was obtained. The melting point of these two products showed no depression when admixed with authentic sample. Consequently the free phenolic group is located at position 7 instead of position 6 as expected, based on the color reaction. From the degradation of the present work, the correctness of the structure of daphnendrine needs further confirmation.An attempt was made to cleave the ether linkage of tetrandrine by the method of Prey. However only a small amount of tarry substance was obtained.

Further investigation elucidated its life history, with the various larval stages such as the miracidium, mother and daughter sporoeysts, eerearia, cyst and metaeercaria described in detail. Infection experiments were performed on the definitive and the molluscan hosts with positive results.In the environs of Foochow, natural infections occurred in Lymnaea (Badix) swinhoei H. Adams, Lymnaea (Radix) auricularia Linne and to a lesser extent, Lymnaea (Fossaria) ollula Gould, serving as the first intermediaries of the parasite. The cercariae may encyst in the body of the mollusean host, while they are still within the daughter sporocyst. After escaping from the snail, they may also encyst in the bodies of other mollusca, such as Hippeutes canton and Segmenting, hemis-phaerula and in the haemocoel of Chaetogaster limnaei K. Baer, inhabiting the Ly-mnaeid snails. Besides these invertebrates, the cercariae may still encyst in the gill of some small fishes. All these animals serve as the transport or paratenic hosts of the parasite, indicating its broad host-specificity.The miracidia of 0. batrachoides resemble those of Eumasenia fukienensis as reported by Tang and Lin (1966) and also those of Dasymetra conferta as reported by Byrd and Maples (1964). All of them have epidermal plates in two tiers of three cells each. They also resemble each other in the simplicity of internal structures. In this respect the family Orientoereadiidae seems to be intimately related to Ma-seniidae Yamaguti, 1953 and Ochetosomatidae Leao, 1945.The eerearia bears remarkable similarity to that of the genus Plagiorchis, especially to that of P. (Multiglandularis) mcgalorchis in the structure of its excretory bladder and in the pattern of flame cell arrangement (Kees 1952). Comparative morphological studies on larval stages indicated its close relationship to members of PlagiorcMidae.Discrepancies in opinion have existed among helminthologists regarding the systematic position of 0. latrachoides, which has been assigned to Allocreadiinae by Tubangui (1933), Plesiocreadiinae by Pande (1934), Acanthoeolpidae by Bychowsky and Dubinina (1954) or to a new subfamily, Orientocreadiinae erected for its reception by Yamaguti (1958) and a new family, Orientocreadiidae Skrjabin et Koval 1960. According to Yamaguti the new subfamily belongs to Allocreadiidae Stossieh, while in the system of Skrjabin and Koval the family is put under Lepocreadioidea Cable, 1956, which in turn, belongs to the suborder Allocreadiata. The present study, however, through the elucidation of its life cycle, reveals the true taxonomic position of the parasite to be placed in Plagiorchioidea.The classification of Plagiorchiidae and related families has been studied by several helminthologists. Odhner 1911, Baer 1924, Poche 1925, Travassos 1928, Fuhr-mann 1928, McMullen 1937, Mehra 1938, Yamaguti 1955, Skrjabin and Antipin 1958 all made important contributions. Skrjabin and Antipin adopting the classification of Mehra, proposed a system of Plagiorchioidea Dollfus, 1930, which comprises of five families, Plagiorehiidae Luhe, 1901 (with 10 subfamilies), Ochetosomatidae Leao, 1945, Telorchidae Stunkard, 1924, Brachycoeliidae Dollfus, 1930, and Maseniidae Gupta, 1953. To these the family Orientocreadiidae should now be added. The superfamily is a large group of trematodes, parasitizing all classes of vertebrates, from fishes to mammals. There are 23 life cycles being worked out, the data of which are tabulated and compared. A discussion is made on the phylogeny of this superfamily.

    Based on analysing a large quantity of data obtained from in-situ observation and laboratory experiments, it is explored that the main causes offthe land subsidence in Shanghai are the cyclic variation of the ground water table. The reological properties of the 1st and 2nd compressible strata are discussed. The important contribution of the compression of the aqueou sand stratum to the land subsidence in Shanghai is mentioned. In calculating the values of storage coefficient of various soil strata, the rule of rebound and settlement can be readily evaluated by norma-li zing the observed deformation of different soil strata according to the range of variation of the ground water table. The conception of the ratio between rebound and compression is used to study the characteristice of residual deformation of various soil strata in Shanghai.

    本文在总结分析以往大量的野外实测资料和室内试验资料的基础上,阐明了地下水位的升降变化是导致上海地面沉降的主要原因。文中论证了第一、二压缩层的流变性质,并指出含水砂层的变形在上海地面沉降中的主要作用。通过对各土层单位变形量的分析,将各土层的实测变形量根据水位变幅予以规格化,以便判断各土层的回升与沉降情况,文中还运用了“胀缩比”的概念,分析了上海各土层的残余变形特征。
