In the last 10 years, the sales for herbicides occupied the first place among the total sales of pesticides. Pyrethrinisto rank first in the insecticides; however organophosphorus and carbamate insecticides will remain to be consumed in a big amount. In the fungicides, there are over 80 different kinds of non-systemic fungicides and more than 40 kinds of systemic fungicides. Among the new varieties of fungicides, the most attractive one is triazole compound. The changeover of herbicides is considerably slow. Special attention has been paid to the mixed formulations of herbicides outside of China. The annual growth rate of plant growth regulators between 1970 to 1982 was 14.2 %. As to the formulations of pesticides, colloids and slow-releasing formulations develop very rapidly. In the applications of pesticides, static spray technology merits attention.

    The acute effects of carbofuran on workersin two plants of 3% granular formulation werestudied. The average airborne carbofuren con-centrations ranged from 0.025 to 1.115mg/m~3sad 0.020 to 0.067 mg/m~3 in plant A andplent B, respectively. The after-work bloodcholincsterase activity was significantly de-creased than that of before-work in the workersof plant A.     The systimatic monitoring of resistance of melon-cotton aphid (Aphisgossypii Glov.)to eighteen organophosphate (OP) and two carbamate insecticides has been investigated during 1983 to 1987.The insectswere collected from Beijing suburbs and the northern regions of Hebeiprovince,including the districts of Langfang,Xianghe and Zhuolu.Theresults showed that the highest resistant factors based on the LC_(50) (ppm)by means of dipping test were 7887.7-fold to pirimicarb,357.8-fold tomalathioh,128.6-fold to dimethoat,83.5-fold...

    The systimatic monitoring of resistance of melon-cotton aphid (Aphisgossypii Glov.)to eighteen organophosphate (OP) and two carbamate insecticides has been investigated during 1983 to 1987.The insectswere collected from Beijing suburbs and the northern regions of Hebeiprovince,including the districts of Langfang,Xianghe and Zhuolu.Theresults showed that the highest resistant factors based on the LC_(50) (ppm)by means of dipping test were 7887.7-fold to pirimicarb,357.8-fold tomalathioh,128.6-fold to dimethoat,83.5-fold to acephate,as comparedwith the susceptible strain in the U.S.S.R..However the resistance toquinalphos,phoxim-methyl,carbofuran and profenofos were very lowwith the LC_(50) between 45.2 and 185.9 ppm.Criss-cross resistance hasbeen evaluated as the pattern of the resistance.The biological activitiesof four enzymes including esterase,acetylcholinesterase (AChE),glu-tathione-Stransferase (GST),and mixed-funotion oxidases (MFO),inthe aphids were determined to study the involvement of these enzymesin the resistance.The insensitivity of AChE seems to be the major resi-stant mechanism of the aphids to OPs and carbamates.The Log LC_(50)(ppm)of different field colonies of the aphids to omethoate and pirimi-carb were significantly correlated with the I_(50) (mol) of AChEs of theaphids in vitro.The Michaelis constants (Km) and velocities (Vmax)of different colonies did not differ significantly.The activity of α-naph-thyl acetate hydrolase was correlated to the resistance in the aphids tomonocrotophos,but not dimethoate.This suggests that the hydrolase aresomewhat associated with some OP-resistance.The tendenoy of theMFO activity was negatively correlated with the toxicities of SV_1 andomethoate to the aphids.The toxicity of dimethoate to the aphids inBeijing was slightly synergisted by piperonyl butoxide in the applicationratio with the insecticides of one to one.Both of these suggest thatMFO are not a major resistance mechanism to the insecticide.Moreover,the activities of GST in the aphids has no correlation with the resis-tance to both OPs and carbamates.
