The tempering process of 16Co14Ni10Cr2Mo steel has been studied by means of SEM. TEM and Auger spectroscopy. The results show that one-step temper embrittlement(OSTE) occurs at 440℃. The fracture path is qusi-cleavage. It is caused by interlath films of Fe3C and M3C carbides. Tempering at 550℃. results in a second drop in impact toughness.This tempered embrittlement is reversible. It is due to impurity (P) segregation to prior austenite grain boundaries leading to intergranular fracture.

Failure analysis was carried out on 65Mn steel washers. The results show that the one-step temper embrittlement (OSTE) is the main factor to cause the crack of engine exhaust pipe washers. Through a series of technological tests, the temperature range of OSTE was determined, and the crack has been avoided through improving the temper process.

对开裂的发动机排气歧管垫片进行了失效分析,发现产生第一类回火脆性是导致垫片开裂的原因。通过系列回火工艺试验,确定了65Mn钢第一类回火脆性出现的温度范围。使用改进后的回火工艺,解决了垫片装配开裂的问题。
