Up to now, the characteristics of fluvial processes in the present Lower Yellow River are still associated with the changes after the breaching at Tongwaxiang in 1855. In this article, four asqects are to be discussed to explain the relevance between the changes in the ancient and recent time and how to utilize the experience and lesson obtained from the historical records in present regulation works. The four aspects are as follows: (1) The fluvial processes in the flooded area due to the breaching in 1855 and its effects on the river morphology, (2) The changes of the Da Qing River after the seizure of its river channel by the Yellow River, (3) The mnpacts of the breaching on the upstream reaches, (4) The geographical distribution of the breach, location along the dykes of the Yellow River in recent 100 years and its implication.

    In thi spaper, three problems are discussed: First, as regards flood control, the idea of waiting for the building of Three Gorges Dam should be abandoned. It is impractical to rely every wishful thinking on the building of Three Gorges Dam; Second, development of the tributaries should be given first priority, and then the main river. The development of hydroelecrtic stations should be incorporated with the development of thermal stations, as local condition may suit; Third, in developing the Yangtze River...

It is impractical to rely every wishful thinking on the building of Three Gorges Dam; Second, development of the tributaries should be given first priority, and then the main river. The development of hydroelecrtic stations should be incorporated with the development of thermal stations, as local condition may suit; Third, in developing the Yangtze River in the stretch around Sichuan Province, navigation, and not flood control, should have the first priority. River channel regulation work should be carried out before the sedimentation problem is solved. The Three Gorges Dam, with its mammoth magnitude, huge monetary expenditure and very long leading time, will be a main engineering undertaking on the Yangtze River. It must be fully demonstrated whether the dam should be built at all. Such a major issue with far-reaching overall impacts should not bedecided by a few people, in order to avoid the waste of manpower and financial resources and leave harms to our descendants.

    论述三个问题:一是在防洪问题上,要防止等待三峡工程和有了三峡工程就万事大吉的思想;二是发展水电要先支流后干流,要水火结合,因地制宜;三是川江应是“航运第一”,不应是“防洪第一”,在泥沙问题未解决前应先整治航道。三峡工程规模最大,工期最长,花钱最多,是长江开发中的主体工程。能不能兴建,要充分论证,不能急于决定这一长远大局,以防劳民伤财,贻害子孙万代。

In this paper, in order to find out the engineering measures for improving the water depth of the navigable channel,based on the hydrographicchaeracteristics, historical data and model test results, the cause of the failureof regulation and the experiences and lessons are analysed, and various engineering schemes for improving the channel depth are reviewed.

    闽江口台江-马江河段位于南台岛下游(见图1),有碍航浅滩多处。早在1919年至1934年,本河段就进行了大规模的航道整治,耗资巨大,收效甚微,没有达到预期的目标。为了探求改善航道水深的工程措施,本文根据水文泥沙特征、历史资料及模型试验成果,分析整治失败的原因及其经验教训,并对各种改善肮深的工程方案作了评述。
