The fracture mechanism of composite metallic materials and the strengthening function of fibres are the important subjects worth studing. Recently, much attention has been paid to the fracture processes of metallic matrix composites. However, due to the lack of observations made directly during the deformation and fracture processes, it has been difficult to know exactly The mechanism of initiation and propagation of microcracks. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the fracture processes in Boron fibre reinforced Aluminium (B/Al)composites by using the in-situ technique in a scanning electron microscope(SEM)and on the basis of observations mentioned above to analyze the mechanism of microcrack initiation and propagation in these composites. In this paper, the unidirectional B/Al composites with two volume fraction of fibre(V_f) made by hot-press method in vacuum were used. The dynamic tensile teste of B/Al specimens have been carried out under a SEM Hitachi S-550 equipped with tension stand, and the microprocesses of fracture of the specimens whose surface fibres are exposed and with various off-axis angle were observed continuously. Also, the ultimate tensile strength and the load-displacement curves were measured. The investigations shows that the off-axis angle can remarkably affect the tensile strength and the fracture mechanism of composite, and the off-axis tensile strengthof B/Al composites is good agreement with that given by theory of maximum strain energy. Two fracture models in B/Al composites, namely the brittle fracture model and the shear one are presented. The fracture processes in B/Al composite can be described by the models mentioned above, i.e. in the case of smaller off-axis angle, the microcracks initiate preferentially at the weak position of the fibre, which induces the microcracks initiation and propagation in Al-matrix, and then the specimens are ruptureed throughmergance of the cracks, and in the case of larger off-axis angle, the microcracks initiate by stripping at fibre/matrix interface or by longitudinal splitting of fibre. After stripping or splitting the cracks propagate through the matrix, and the specimens are ruptured. Therefore, the longitudinal stress which controls the fracture process of composite plays a main role in the smaller off-axis angle, and the transverse stress (including the shear stress) decides the fracture manner of composite with larger off-axis angle. Besides, the research also shows that the eigenangle at which the transition of the brittle fracture model to the shear one occur may be related to the best favourable off-axis angle.

本研究用真空热压法制备了两种不同纤维体积分数的单向硼纤维增强铝(B/Al)复合材料,进行了动态拉伸试验。通过在备有拉伸台的扫描电镜(SEM)下缓慢加载,连续观察了各种偏轴角纤维外露试样的断裂过程。并测定了纤维外露试样及完整试样的强度及其载荷-位移曲线。结果表明:复合材料纵向,即纤维方向与拉伸轴的夹角(偏轴角)对断裂机制有极大影响,试样的破坏符合一定规律;复合材料强度与偏轴角的关系同最大应变能理论所揭示的规律相一致。由此提出了B/Al复合材料在小角拉伸时的正断模型和在大角拉伸时的剪断模型,阐明了B/Al复合材料裂纹萌生,扩展及连接的微观断裂过程。研究还表明,两种模型过渡的特征转折角与最优偏轴角之间可能存在某种相对应的关系。

金属基复合材料具有较低的热膨胀系数,是制造光学系统构体和雷达天线元件的理想材料。木文选取了T300纤维、M40纤维和L2、LD2、LF2、LY12铝合金基体,用热压法制成复合材料。研究了纤维种类和基体种类对复合材料的热膨胀系数的影响,分析了获得低膨胀系数的机理,提出了获得低膨胀系数的复合材料的基体和纤维的最佳选择。

采用液态铸渗工艺生产出WC+Cr20金属基硬面复合材料。复合界面剪切强度483MPa,已接近母材强度。界面致密,呈冶金结合。
